MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team (6-10, 0-4) fell 90-72 to the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks (16-0, 4-0), Saturday afternoon at the BENU PEC in Mesa, Ariz.
The Buccaneers opened the new year with a loss to the No. 22 ranked program in the NAIA. Benedictine Mesa remains undefeated atop the Great Southwest Athletic Conference.
The Redhawks took a five point lead into the halftime locker room, shooting an efficient 50% from the field. Buccaneer guards Mahlik Lindsey and Caleb Ivy combined for 25 points in the first 20 minutes of play.
Lindsey, Park-Gilbert's leading scorer in this contest, added another 12 points in the second half. He shot 57% from the field, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out three assists.
Ivy scored a season-high 19 points as he knocked down four three-pointers and added two blocks on the defensive end. The graduate student from Chicago, Ill., had his highest scoring game since returning from an injury that sidelined him all of last year and the first 10 games of this year.
Overall, the Bucs shot 40.9% from the field and 47.8% from downtown. The Park-Gilbert bench combined for 13 points.
The Buccaneers return to the court a week from now, as they take on the No. 4 ranked Arizona Christian University Firestorm (12-4, 3-1) on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. MST at the ACU Events Center in Glendale, Ariz.
