Bucs VB Drop 2 on First Day at Florida College Invite

The Park University Gilbert Volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Day one of the Florida College Labor Day Invitational at Conn Gymnasium in Temple Terrace, Fla. The Buccaneers dropped the fjrst match to Warner University 3-0 and then the second contest to St. Thomas (Fla.) 3-0.

Match 1 – Warner University 3, Park Gilbert 0 (18-25, 17-25, 13-25)

While this match did not have the end result the Buccaneers wanted to see, it did showcase one of the future stars of the program in freshman Hayven Lick who posted her first double digit kill match of her career with 10 kills. In addition, Lick hit a career high .304 for the match.

The Bucs libero trio of Elise Langley (8), Melissa Moorehouse (9) and Isari Vigil (6) combined for 23 digs for the match. They were joined by outside hitter Porsche Bauer who also tallied eight digs.

Adrianna DeMario led the team with 16 assists.

Match 2 – St. Thomas (Fla) 3, Park Gilbert 0 (13-25, 17-25, 19-25)

Kyla Knight set the tone for the Bucs in their second match, leading the way with nine kills and hitting .350. Lick continued her strong day posting another six kills along with five digs.

Langley took most of the back row duties in this match and posted her third double digit digs match of the year with 11.

DeMario again added 16 assists to lead the team.

As a team, Park started slowly hitting negatively in the first set with only six kills and eight error but improved its hitting percentage with each set. The Bucs had 10 kills and hit .121 in the second set and then they hit .269 in the third with nine kills and two errors. Unfortunately for the Bucs, they faced a St. Thomas team on a roll as it hit .378 for the match with 44 kills and only 10 errors for the entire match.

Day two of the Florida College Invitational continues tomorrow starting bright and early as the Bucs take on Loyola-New Orleans starting at 6 a.m. Arizona Time before meeting host Florida College later in the day starting at Noon Arizona time.
