Bucs VB Sets Numerous Records to Finish Florida Weekend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3

The Park University Gilbert Volleyball team finished its week with three matches including a spectacular 3-2 win over Florida College which featured a record setting performance from freshman Libero Elise Langley who recorded a record setting 42 digs in the win on Saturday.

Here is a recap of the final three matches of the weekend.

Match 1 (8/30) – Loyola-New Orleans 3, Park Gilbert 0 (25-27, 21-25, 14-25)

Park Gilbert was right with LNO on the stat sheet in almost every category, but the Buccaneers were done in with attack errors. The Bucs had nine more errors than the Wolf Pack and this is what ultimately cost them a chance to win.

Hayven Lick (8), Kyla Knight (7) and Keep Williams (7) led the way offensively in kills. Lick also added 11 digs.

Langley had 19 digs and Adrianna DeMario posted a double-double with 20 assists and 11 digs.

Match 2 (8/30) – Park Gilbert 3, Florida College 2 (25-19, 23-25, 22-25, 31-29, 15-10)

This could be the match head coach Pisila Tukia looks back on and says this is where this team started to figure out how good they can be happened.

Everything was going against the Bucs. After winning the first set, they dropped two straight and faced five match points. They didn't blink, saving them all before converting on their second set point to win the set 31-29 and tie the match at 2-2. This set tied for the longest set the Bucs have ever played with the winning score of 31-29. The last time the Bucs played a set which ended in this score, they lost the set at La Sierra in 2022.

They took the momentum of the end of the fourth set and used it to win the fifth. After falling down 1-0, the Bucs would go on a 5-0 run to take the lead and go on to win the final set 15-10.

This was the first five-set win for the Bucs in almost two years. The last five set win came on September 30, 2023 against UC Merced.

This 2025 squad put its imprint on the Buc record book in this match. The 191 total attacks and 104 digs both ranked third on the all-time list in those categories. The 15.0 team blocks (Block Solo + ½ Block Assists) ranks fourth all-time as does the five solo blocks.

Individually, Lick set the freshman record for kills in a match with 19 surpassing the previous record of 17 set by Railey Druxman in 2022. She also added a career high 15 digs to record the first double-double of her career.

But the incredible record of the night goes to Langley, who set not only the freshman record, but the school record for digs in a match with 42, obliterating the previous record of 29 held by three players.

DeMario posted 45 assists which is the fourth most in a match in school history. She also set a career high for digs with 15.

Match 3 (8/31) – New College of Florida 3, Park Gilbert 1 (20-25, 16-25, 25-17, 23-25)

The Bucs showed some weariness in their seventh match of week, falling to New College of Florida in four sets. But despite the loss, the Bucs show some resilience down the stretch winning the third set and they held a 23-22 lead late before losing the final three points to drop the match.

Keep Williams led the team with eight kills, followed by Aliya Unseth with seven.

Langley led the team with 18 digs, followed by Porsche Bauer and Isari Vigil with 11 each.

DeMario had 29 assists for the match.

The Bucs now return home and have a week and a half off before opening conference play on Thursday, Sept. 11 against La Sierra at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz., starting at 6 p.m. The Buccaneers won a non-conference match against the Eagles last year at LSU 3-0 and lead the all-time series 4-2 having won four in a row.

Box Scores from the Florida College and New College of Florida matches were still being updated at press time.
