Bucs Fall to Eastern Oregon

MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team (3-4, 0-1) lost to the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (4-2, 0-0) by a score of 85-78, Wednesday evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.

The Buccaneers controlled momentum for the first 25 minutes of this contest, but Eastern Oregon caught fire as they shot 63% in the second half.

In the first half Park-Gilbert jumped out to a 40-31 lead, shooting an efficient 8-13 from downtown. Bucs head coach Gordon Stubblefield rolled out a new starting lineup as three players found themselves in double-digit scoring figures by halftime: Mahlik Lindsey, Latrell Jones, and Tanner Pate.

The Bucs opened the second half extending their lead to 11 points with roughly 16 minutes remaining, but then the Mountaineers stormed back with a 13-0 run in the span of two minutes. Both teams traded blows throughout the final 10 minutes of action, but it was Eastern Oregon who held the lead for majority of that frame.

Overall, Park-Gilbert shot 51.9% from the field and 44.4% from three-point land.

Lindsey, last week's GSAC Offensive Player of the Week, led the team with 23 points, while also recording five rebounds and five assists.

Pate, who logged just 18 points in the last two games, ended up with 21 points tonight. He recorded three rebounds, three assists, and a steal while shooting 8-15 from the field. Jones tallied 16 points in his first start this season, shooting 6-9 from the field and hitting a pair of triples.

The Bucs attacked the EOU interior with 32 points in the paint, however the Mountaineer bench outscored Park Gilbert's 44-14.

The Buccaneers return to the floor this Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. MST, when they host the Nelson University Arizona Warriors at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
