MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team (3-3, 0-1) fell to the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks (7-0, 1-0) by a score of 91-67, Saturday afternoon at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
The Buccaneers opened Great Southwest Athletic Conference play with a loss to their cross-town rival, falling to 3-8 all-time against Benedictine Mesa. Park-Gilbert fell into a 46-20 hole at halftime but outscored the Redhawks 47-45 in the second half.
Park-Gilbert's shooting numbers improved in the second half, but overall the Bucs shot 34.8% from the field and 35.7% from downtown.
Guard Mahlik Lindsey led the Buccaneers in scoring with 25 points. He shot 46.6% from the field and recorded six rebounds, three assists, and four three-pointers made. That brings Lindsey's points total this week to 66, following a 41-point outing against Justice on Wednesday night.
The Park-Gilbert bench posted a solid 26 points, led by a season-high nine points from forward David Onyeogaziri who shot 100% Â from the field in 18 minutes.
The Buccaneers resume non-conference play this Wednesday, Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. MST when they host the Eastern Oregon University Mountaineers (3-1, 0-0) at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
