Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Lindsey Sets Single-Game Scoring Record in Win Over Justice

MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team (3-2) defeated the Justice University Lions (2-3) by a score of 68-67, Wednesday night at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.

The Buccaneers now move to 2-0 all-time against Justice, in a gusty win that required a game-winning stop on the Lions' final possession. Down one point with nine seconds left, Justice attacked the paint with a layup at the buzzer, but forward Norman Dupree was there to contest the shot down low.

This win, putting Park-Gilbert above .500, was highlighted by a career-high 41-point outing from guard Mahlik Lindsey, who became the first player in program history to score 40+ points in a game. Lindsey now holds the Park-Gilbert single-game scoring record, which Eric Patten held for five years. Patten scored 37 points against Nelson University (AZ) back in February of 2020.

In a game where three Buccaneers were in foul trouble, Lindsey stepped up and played all forty minutes. He shot 61% from the field, knocked down four of seven triples, and went 15-16 from the free throw line. Lindsey also provided sparks on the defensive end, logging two steals and four rebounds.

Guard Tanner Pate played all but three minutes for the Bucs, recording nine points, three rebounds, three assists, one block, and one steal.

As a team, the Bucs shot 42.9% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc. They came away with the win despite being outrebounded 47-30.

The Buccaneers return to the floor this Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. MST, when they host the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks in Park-Gilbert's conference opener at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
