Game Recap: Softball |

Buccaneers Fall To No. 24 Embry-Riddle Despite Vallee Complete Game

Despite a fantastic game two performance by Gabby Vallee, the Park University Gilbert softball team was swept on day one of their series with No. 24 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.).

Game 1- Embry-Riddle 6, Park Gilbert 2

With a pair of runs in the second inning, the Buccaneers jumped out to an early lead. Singles by Raylissa Garcia and Anissa Corrales, plus an Eagles' error that allowed Danni Garcia to reach, loaded the bases. Peyton Cushner and Zofia Corral each drew walks to score the runs.

The Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning with five runs of their own and the Buccaneers were unable to replicate their early offensive success; they were limited to just four hits throughout the entire contest. Corrales and Raylissa Garcia accounted for all four Buccaneers hits with two each.

Game 2- Embry-Riddle 2, Park Gilbert 0

For the last two years, Gabby Vallee has impressed in the circle and often given her team a real chance to win. In what may have been her final collegiate start, she did just that one more time. The senior was in full-form against the Cal Pac's regular season champions; she threw all six innings and did not allow an earned run.

Unfortunately, fielding errors in the first and sixth innings allowed the Eagles to score two runs. In a game where the Buccaneers were limited to just five hits, it was enough for the Eagles to eke out a victory.

Corrales was the only Buccaneer in game two to muster two hits. With Haley Basye on third base, one of those hits (a single) gave the Bucs their best opportunity of the day to score, but Basye was thrown out at home.

What's Next: The Buccaneers return home tomorrow, an arrangement made so that the softball team's six graduating members (Destinee Alvarez, Danni Garcia, Analysse Jaurez, Jessica Mendoza, Amber Saiz and Gabby Vallee) can participate in the university's commencement ceremony in Mesa, Ariz.

The series resumes on Sunday morning (11 a.m.) in Prescott, Ariz., as the Buccaneers look to salvage their season finale.
