The Park University Gilbert softball team traveled across town for their season opener to Surprise, Ariz., where they fell to Ottawa (Ariz.) in both games of their doubleheader, 13-1 and 10-1. It took the Spirit a sixth inning to secure their game-two victory, but they got three across in that final frame to bring their total to 10.
Danielle Farinas and Courtney Beckwith were responsible for the game's respective RBIs, while Amber Saiz and Farinas were the two Bucs who crossed home plate.
Game one saw Gabby Vallee get the start and take the loss after 2.1 innings pitched. Brianna Munger relieved her for the final 1.2. Abril Nerey threw all 5.1 innings of game two before the game was called.
