The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team wrapped up their Colorado road trip with a 76-54 loss to NCAA Division II Colorado Christian. The Bucs went 0-2 on the trip, but both losses were to DII teams as they played Colorado School of Mines yesterday.
Things slipped away from the Bucs quickly; they were down 15 less than 12 minutes into the contest. The Bucs shot just 29.6% from the field and featured some uncharacteristically bad individual shooting performances.
Jacob Bingham went 1-10 overall (1-8 from three-point range) and 1-4 from the foul line. Erik Palmer, who was shooting 47.6% on the season going into today's game, shot 3-13 against the Cougars; he was the only Buccaneer to score double-digits (13), but scored 10 of his points on free throws.
The Cougars' 15 point halftime lead peaked at 26 points with just over two minutes remaining in the game as the Bucs offensive struggles continued. They managed six assists in the second half, but were limited to just one in the first.
One silver lining for the Bucs is that they forced 11 steals compared to the Cougars' five. Kylan Shorts led the team with three.
After back-to-back losses to DII competition, the Bucs are now 2-8 and return home for a December homestand which features eight straight games at The PHHacility in Phoenix, Ariz. The stretch starts on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 8:30 p.m. vs SAGU-AIC, who the Bucs are 3-0 all-time against.
