SURPRISE, Ariz. — Park-Gilbert women's soccer battled OUAZ to a 1-1 draw Wednesday evening at Spirit Field, moving the Buccaneers to 5-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in GSAC play.
Park-Gilbert struck first in the 19th minute when
Bekah Sipinga converted a penalty kick at 18:42, giving the Buccaneers a 1-0 advantage. Sipinga's goal was her second of the season and put Park-Gilbert in front after a tightly contested opening half.
The Buccaneers carried the lead into the final minutes, but OUAZ found the equalizer in the 90th minute when Desiree Dutra scored at 89:09. The late goal forced the teams to settle for a point apiece.
The match was a defensive battle throughout, with Park-Gilbert recording three shots, including two on goal, while OUAZ finished with six shots and three on target. The Buccaneers earned two corner kicks compared to six for OUAZ and were called for eight fouls to OUAZ's two.
Journey Morimoto played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded two saves, while OUAZ goalkeeper Georgina Hagger made one save.
The result gives the Buccaneers their first draw of the 2026 season while keeping Park-Gilbert unbeaten in its last five matches. The Bucs now sit at 1-0-1 in conference play as the GSAC schedule continues. Park-Gilbert returns to action Thursday, Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m. when the Buccaneers travel to Riverside, Calif., to face La Sierra University at LSU Soccer Field.
