RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Park-Gilbert women's soccer battled throughout Thursday evening's GSAC matchup at La Sierra University but fell 2-1 to the Golden Eagles at LSU Soccer Field. The Buccaneers now stand at 5-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play.
La Sierra struck first in the 15th minute when Brianna Lee found the back of the net. Park-Gilbert responded before halftime, with
Bekah Sipinga converting a penalty kick in the 34th minute to bring the match level at 1-1.
The teams remained even until the 73rd minute, when Lee scored her second goal of the night to give La Sierra a 2-1 advantage. The Buccaneers continued to push for an equalizer but were unable to find a second goal.
Park-Gilbert finished with 16 shots, including nine on goal, while La Sierra recorded 12 shots and seven shots on target.
Journey Morimoto played all 90 minutes and made five saves. The result marked Park-Gilbert's first loss in GSAC play this season, following a win over Arizona Christian and a 1-1 draw at OUAZ.
The Buccaneers will look to bounce back Saturday, Sept. 26, at 4:30 p.m. as they continue their road trip against Soka University of America at Soka Soccer Field in Aliso Viejo, Calif.
