Williams Wins Buccaneer Player of the Week Award for Aug. 24-30

Park University Gilbert women's volleyball player Keep Williams was named the Buccaneers Player of the Week for her efforts over the week of August 24-30. This is the second week of the award this season.

The Buccaneers Player of the Week is voted on by the coaches, staff and faculty at Park Gilbert. The player with the most votes wins for the week. The award recognizes athletic excellence and good sportsmanship.

Williams posed 32 kills and 3 service aces this week offensively to go along with 14 digs on the defensive end. She completed the feat with two of the Bucs three games against top competition. The University of Cumberlands is receiving top-25 votes and another (Northwest) was in the field got the NAIA national tournament a year ago.

Williams set and reset her career highs for kills as she posted 13 kills and hit .323 against Northwest and then followed it with 14 putaways and seven digs in a win against Westcliff.

Also up for the award this week were two women's soccer players. Darienne Thompson, who had two goals and two assists for the week in Buccaneers wins against Nelson and Justice. Yadira Bernal was nominated for the second week in a row as she is off to a hot start to the season. She posted two goals and two assists for the week. In addition, men's soccer player Brody Donovan was in contention for the second week in a row after scoring a goal in the Bucs 2-0 win over Cal Lutheran and women's volleyball player Laney Calvary had 26 kills and 14 blocks (1 solo, 13 block assists),

Thursday, Sept. 3 – Women's Volleyball vs. La Sierra at AAG 6 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 4 – Women's Volleyball vs. Life Pacific at AAG 6 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 5 – Women's Volleyball vs. Lake Forest at AAG 12 p.m.
