The Park University Gilbert men's volleyball team picked up its second conference win in as many weeks beating Hope International University 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-16) this evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
The Bucs moved to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Hope falls to 3-10, 1-3. This is the first win in four matches against Hope International for the Buccaneers.
Buccaneer head coach Vince Zanzucchi shortened the lineup tonight, playing the same seven players throughout the match and did not make any substitutions. The Buccaneers who played dominated throughout, led by the outside hitting duo of Azzlyn Potts 14 kills and Dominic Smith 13 kills. Potts only made one error and hit a career high .520. Smith hit .375 for the match as they combined for 27 of the Bucs 42 kills.
Freshman opposite Terry Alo posted nine kills and hit .300 as he continues to get comfortable with the college game after making his debut last week.
Setter Damon Leavitt had 37 assists and led the team with eight digs.
As a team, the Buccaneers hit .520 with only 10 attack errors for the match.
The Buccaneers now face a stiff test in the defending national champions and No. 1 team in the nation in The Master's University tomorrow afternoon starting at 1p.m. at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
