The Park University Gilbert men's volleyball team lost to No. 14 Westcliff this afternoon 3-0 (17-25, 21-25, 20-25) at Arizona Athletic Ground in Mesa, Ariz. The Bucs fall to 3-5 on the season while the Warriors up their record to 4-3.
Despite the 3-0 score, the Bucs made the Warriors work for their win this afternoon. Head coach Vince Zanzucchi started four freshman, a sophomore and a freshman libero. The Bucs only had 14 attack errors on the afternoon with 30 kills and hit .200. The Warriors just had a little more firepower with 49 kills and a .402 attack percentage.
Sophomore Dominic Smith led the team with 10 kills and hit .240. Freshman Riley Terwillegar had seven kills and hit .211. Opposite Wells Brian had five kills in two sets and Peyton Crowder making his first start had four. Freshman libero Andrew Kennedy had nine digs, while freshman setter Brandon Leyva had 24 assists.
The Bucs now take some time off to get healthy before their next match. The take on No. 9 Benedictine Mesa at the BENU PEC on Friday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
