Bucs Draw 3-3 With Arizona Christian

MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert women's soccer team (4-3-1, 2-0-1) tied 3-3 with the Arizona Christian University Firestorm (2-3-1, 0-0-1), Thursday evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.

The Buccaneers previously had a five-game in-conference winning streak dating back to last October. That came to an end Thursday evening as Park-Gilbert and ACU played to a thrilling draw.

Park-Gilbert started out hot in the first half. They took a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute, as sophomore midfielder Alexandria Bugal scored off a great feed from junior forward Yadira Bernal, who then put the Bucs up 2-0 with a successful penalty kick.

Bernal, who's only played in four games this season, has found the back of the net in each of her last three outings.

ACU began to run away with the momentum late in the first half and early in the second. They scored three unanswered goals in the 32nd, 45th, and 60th minutes.

Junior forward Abri McCaster checked into the game in the 80th minute. Four minutes later, McCaster scored the equalizer for Park-Gilbert off an assist from senior forward Kiara Rubio.

Sophomore goalkeeper Journey Morimoto started the first half of this game, and senior Morgan Trail took over netminding duties in the second half.

Park-Gilbert outshot ACU 10-6, and all of the Firestorm's shots were on goal.

The Buccaneers return to the pitch this Thursday, Sept. 25 at 5:00 p.m. MST, when they hit the road and take on the OUAZ Spirit (2-5-0, 1-2-0) in the second meeting this season. This game will be played at Spirit Field in Surprise, Ariz.
