MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's soccer team (2-3-1, 1-0-0) defeated the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit (1-4-0, 2-4-0) in a 1-0 defensive struggle, Saturday evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
The Buccaneers earned their first win since Aug. 22, courtesy of some late-game heroics from junior forward Monty Almaliky.
The transfer from Wichita, Kan., broke the 0-0 tie after nearly 87 minutes of scoreless soccer. Almaliky scored his second goal of the 2025 season, courtesy of a Jake Fitzgerald assist.
Buccaneers goalkeeper Nicklas Lagesen picked up the clean sheet and his second win of the year, saving two shots.
The Bucs return to the pitch this Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 8:00 p.m. MST, when they hit the road to face the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks (4-2-1, 1-1-0) at ASU Polytechnic in Mesa, Ariz.
