Buccaneers MBB Drops Contest at #5 The Master's

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team (6-16, 3-7) fell to The Master's University Mustangs (20-4, 8-2), losing on the road 69-95 Wednesday night at The MacArthur Center in Santa Clarita, Calif.

The Buccaneers fall to 0-4 against ranked teams this season, as they struggled to keep pace with the No. 5 program in the NAIA without sophomore guard Tanner Pate on the floor.

The Mustangs were led by an explosive 37-point outing from freshman guard Quincy Phillips, as The Master's shot 53% from the field and 45.7% from downtown. The team's 95 points was the most the Buccaneers allowed in a game all season, topping the 90 allowed versus TMU in the first meeting on Jan. 18.

Despite the loss, guard Mahlik Lindsey gave the shorthanded Bucs everything he had on both ends of the floor. The senior from Milwaukee, Wisc., played all but two minutes as he led Park-Gilbert in scoring with 31 points. Lindsey also recorded five rebounds, three steals and one block. This is the second time Mahlik has shined against a ranked team as he set a new personal scoring high this season, surpassing the 25 points he scored against No. 6 Arizona Christian University on Jan. 25.

Park-Gilbert shot a total of 40.4% from the field and 32.1% from three-point land. The Bucs remain in sixth place in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference, while The Master's leaps from No. 3 to No. 2 in the GSAC standings.

The Buccaneers men's basketball team hits the road again shortly, as they return from California to face the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles (10-13, 5-5) this Saturday, Feb. 5 at 4:30 p.m. MST in Prescott, Ariz.
