Bucs Celebrate Senior Night with Sweep of Justice

The Park University Gilbert volleyball team celebrated their seniors tonight with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-16) victory over Justice University this evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz. With the win, the Bucs up its record to 5-13 on the season. Justice falls to 2-12.

The Buccaneers celebrated four players who will be graduating this year, Athena Hice, Keira DeFaria, Isari Vigil and Leila Lee. Three of the four players saw significant minutes tonight. Lee was unable to play due to an injury.

Hice had her best match as a Buc, with career highs in kills (7), attack percentage (.368), aces (2), and digs (4).

DeFaria also had her best game in a Park Gilbert uniform with a career high six kills, no errors, a .400 hitting percentage and a service ace.

Vigil led the team with eight digs and the 5-2 libero also got to play at outside hitter in the third set and tallied a kill.

As a team the Bucs posted 39 kills and only 10 errors. Three players had five or more kills with no errors led by DeFaria and junior Aliya Unseth (6 kills) and Molly Aikens (5 kills).

Adrianna DeMario led the team with 18 assists, but Ashley Estrada (9) and Miyah Vila (8) also chipped in.

The Bucs hit .345 as a team for the match and out hit the Lions in kills (39-27).

The Bucs don't have much time to enjoy the win as they return to the court on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at OUAZ. The Spirit beat the Bucs 3-0 back on Sept. 20.  The Bucs hope to take the momentum from this match and holding a set point in the third set against OUAZ to spur them against the Spirit at Faith Arena on Wednesday.
