Bucs and Redhawks Draw on Senior Night

MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert women's soccer team (5-7-2, 3-4-2) tied with the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks (2-11-1, 0-8-1) by a score of 2-2, Saturday evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.

Park-Gilbert also celebrated senior night, honoring nine seniors and their contributions to Buccaneers Soccer: Morgan Trail, Taliyah Parker, Leslie Fierro, Jocelyn Chavez, Alicia Ypina, Marissa Pond, Sarai Mizzell, Lauren Runnion, and Megan O'Neill.

The first half of play proved to be a high-scoring affair. The Redhawks capitalized on their two total shots in this contest with a pair of goals; in the 20th and 25th minutes. In the 28th minute, sophomore defender Bekah Sipinga got the Bucs on the board with a short-distance goal assisted by Pond.

In the 68th minute, Runnion scored the game's equalizer and her eighth goal of the season. Junior forward Abri McCaster assisted on the play.

Trail started the first half in net, and sophomore Journey Morimoto took netminding duties in the second half.

The Bucs took 12 shots, nine corner kicks, and committed four fouls.

Park-Gilbert returns to the pitch next Saturday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. MST, when they hit the road to face the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles in Prescott, Ariz. The Eagles, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, come into this contest with a 12-0-2 overall record and 9-0 record in Great Southwest Athletic Conference play.
