Bucs Drop Tight Battle to No. 8 Embry-Riddle

MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert women's soccer team (5-8-2, 3-5-2) lost to the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles (15-0-2, 11-0) by a score of 1-0, Saturday evening at the ERAU Varsity Field in Prescott, Ariz.

The Buccaneers put up a valiant fight against the No. 8-ranked program in the NAIA, as both teams played nearly 70 minutes of scoreless soccer.

The Eagles, who are undefeated both in overall and in Great Southwest Athletic Conference play, have only won by a single goal three times this year. The Bucs made the Embry-Riddle earn their win Saturday evening, as the Eagles were fresh off a pair of 5-0 wins over Arizona Christian University and Benedictine University Mesa.

Junior midfielder Samantha Wright scored the lone goal in this contest, assisted by junior forward Kaitlyn Roskopf.

Buccaneers sophomore goalkeeper Journey Morimoto had a busy evening in net, as the Eagles outshot Park-Gilbert 21-2. Morimoto picked up 10 saves in this contest.

Park-Gilbert returns to the pitch this Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 5 p.m. MST, as they prepare for a rematch with Embry-Riddle on home turf at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz. This matchup was intended to be played on Sept. 27, but was postponed due to lightning delays.
