MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert men's soccer team (6-5-3, 5-2-2) lost 4-1 at home to the Benedictine University Mesa Redhawks (6-4-4, 3-3-3), Saturday night at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
The Buccaneers had their four-game winning streak snapped, as they now sit in fourth place of the Great Southwest Athletic Conference standings.
Despite the loss, today was about celebrating Park-Gilbert's 14 seniors and their contributions to Buccaneers soccer: Ryan Lea, Zac Stephenson, Havard Brynie, Steven Haug, Albin Sundholm, Nicklas Lagesen, Ramses Rodriguez Barroso, Dominick Morales, Casey Ramirez, Luis Martinez, Konstantinos Hinteregger, Justin Muller, Ryan Masterson, and Marco Amador.
BENU took a 2-1 lead into the halftime break and scored another two goals in the second half. Park-Gilbert's lone goal of this contest came from junior forward Monty Almaliky in the 19th minute. Almaliky scored his seventh goal of the season with sophomore defenseman Noah Yalu assisting on the play.
In net for the Bucs tonight was Stephenson, who saved one shot on goal in the second half.
Park-Gilbert took 8 shots to BENU's 10.
The Buccaneers to the pitch next Saturday, Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. MST, when they hit the road to face the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Eagles (6-4-3, 5-2-2) in Prescott, Ariz.
