The Park University Gilbert volleyball team dropped a conference contest to The Master's University this evening in Santa Clarita, Calif., 3-0 (13-25, 20-25, 23-25).
The Bucs got off to a slow start in the first set as The Master's posted 16 kills with only one error. The Bucs had 10 kills but committed 6 attack miscues.
The second stanza saw the Bucs jump out to a 6-2 lead before the Mustangs responded with an 8-0 run to take a 10-6 lead. Undaunted, Park answered with its own 4-0 run to retake the lead 11-10. The match then went back and forth to 15-all. TMU then went on another 8-0 run to make it 23-15. After a Park Gilbert time out, the Bucs scored five more points to make it respectable but fell 25-20.
The third set was a barn burner after the Bucs jumped out to 5-0 and 8-2 leads before the Mustangs came back with a 7-0 run to take the lead. Over the remainder of the match there would be six lead changes as neither team would have more than a two-point advantage at any point. Then at 23-23 an out of system bad set and an attack error gave TMU the final points it needed to end the match.
Mallory Turner led the team with nine kills, followed by Porsche Bauer with seven. Chariyah Curry and Jessica Goldsmith also had solid nights. Curry hit .364 with four kills and no errors. Goldsmith had five kills and one error as she hit .211.
Daniella Miranda-Johnson had 26 of the Bucs 27 assists and added seven digs and an ace. Taylor Van Winkle had eight digs to lead the squad.
The week is not over yet for the Bucs as they now return home to take on Embry Riddle on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. at Chandler Prep Academy. The Bucs fell to the Eagles earlier this month 3-0 in Prescott, Ariz.
