MBB Drops Contest to Westcliff

The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team lost a 72-49 contest to Westcliff University Saturday afternoon in Irvine, Calif. The Bucs fall to 6-10, 2-4 in Cal Pac play.

After shooting well over 50 percent in its game against Saint Katherine on Thursday, the Bucs struggled from the field against the Warriors only shooting 29 percent in the first half and 30 percent for the game. Those struggles manifested itself in a 13-point halftime deficit as Westcliff went on a 14-5 run to open its lead which reached as high as 14 points in the half. LC Ballard and Carnacion Cosby each had five points in the half to lead the scoring for Park.

The second half was not much better for the visitors as the Bucs scored nine more points in the half but were still outscored by 10. DJ Frye scored seven points in the half to lead the team.

Westcliff did not shoot much better from the floor, hitting at a 39 percent clip but won the rebounding battle 47-35 and had 12 more attempts at the free throw line.

Individually, Caleb Ivy and Frye led the Buccaneers with nine points each. Ivy also led the team with seven rebounds. Kylan Shorts had four assists to lead the team.

The Bucs now return home for two games against Simpson and UC Merced on January 11 and 13. Both contests are slated to start at 7:30 p.m.
