Softball Splits Final Day of Series with Embry-Riddle (AZ)

Mesa, Ariz. – Concluding the end of their four game series, the Buccaneers split with the Eagles of Embry-Riddle on day two with a 8-4 win and 3-0 loss.

Park opened up the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Gabby Romero was the first to get on board with a two base hit, followed by a single from Christina Robles. Carolina Olivas hit a sac fly that allowed Romero to put up the first run of the game. Raylissa Garcia smacked a single that got yet another run through home plate.

Embry-Riddle responded with two runs of their own in the top of the third. Abril Nerey was able to keep the Eagles to seven hits after pitching a full seven frames. She moves to 15-5 on the season.

In the bottom of the third, Ledezma Romero got on with a single base hit, but was soon led in with a Danielle Farinas 2 RBI home run. Farinas homered twice in the Embry-Riddle series and currently claims a .354 BA. G. Romero capped the inning with a home run of her own to, giving the Buccaneers a 5-2 lead. She went on to finish 3-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Olivas had her opportunity to shine in the fourth; and shine she did as she whacked at a pitch that resulted in the Buccaneers third home run. The Eagles trailed by four as they headed into the fifth.

If three home runs wasn't enough, Sam Holbert picked up the momentum with a two RBI homer that brought the run gap to two. In the bottom of the fifth, Park secured a more comfortable lead with two final runs thanks to a Robles and Olivas RBI.

Game two was a different experience for both teams, with Park managing one hit, and Embry-Riddle finishing with four.

Two Embry-Riddle home runs assisted them over the Buccaneers in the first and seventh frames. Kate Delaney was a contributing factor in preventing Park from scoring. She allowed one hit and struck out six.

Park will celebrate the graduating seniors on Monday against Westcliff University at Legacy Sports Complex, with game time scheduled for 12 p.m.
