Box Score Mesa, Ariz. – A second half that left a lot to be desired solidified the Buccaneers men's basketball team their second rivalry loss this season at the hands of the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks by a score of 83-73.
The Redhawks took a 10 point lead into halftime, with the Bucs hanging around thanks to 11 points from Tre Adams in 14 first half minutes. Quality shots marked the first half, with both teams shooting up around 45% at the break.
The Redhawks came out flying in the second half, including points on five straight possessions, ending in a game-high lead of 26 with just over 10 minutes to go in the half. The Bucs did answer, though too little too late, as they cut the lead thanks to points on four straight possessions to close the game.
The bench mob for the Bucs put together a solid performance, combining for 37 of the team's 73 points, led largely by Kobi Cason. He managed a team high of 15 points, going 4-7 from the floor in a massive 27 minutes off the bench.
Aidan Moreno raked in seven of the teams 40 rebounds, but the battle on the boards was dominated by the Redhawks as the home squad tallied 53 total rebounds. The deficit in rebounds helped seal the hole made by the 10 missed free throws from the Redhawks, shooting just 56.5% from the line in the game.
Park returns to Bell Bank Park on Feb. 10 for one of their final two home games of the season. They first host Embry-Riddle (AZ) at 7:30 p.m., followed by a redo of a previously canceled game against Westcliff University on Fe. 13 at 2:00 p.m.
