The Park University Gilbert men's volleyball team dropped its sixth game in a row to start the season falling to Westcliff University 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-15) in Irvine, Calif. With the loss Park Gilbert fall to 0-6, 0-3 in Cal Pac play. Westcliff ups its record to 3-8, 2-1 in conference. Both of their conference wins are against the Bucs.
The Bucs were competitive in the first two sets, matching the Warriors kill for kill, but made a few more attack errors.
In the first set, both teams had 13 kills, but the Bucs had two more hitting errors and four service errors which made the difference.
In the second set, Park stayed close with 12 kills, but Westcliff matched them with 15 of their own with only two errors. Westcliff kept the Bucs in the set with six service errors or its own.
The Buccaneers play dipped tremendously in the third set as they only had six kills against seven hitting errors.
Westcliff had an efficient match with only eight attack errors and 41 kills to hit .388. The Bucs countered with 31 kills and 18 errors, hitting .140.
Ben Turcinec let the Bucs with eight kills. Nico Gutierrez had seven kills and hit .174. Middle blockers Nathan Smith and Kade Irvine combined for seven kills and only two errors in the middle. Jake Burdick and Hunter Miller both had 13 assists as they split setting duties. While Miller led the Bucs with eight digs.
Park Gilbert will attempt to get off the schneid tomorrow night, February 25 as they take on Saint Katherine in San Marcos, Calif. At 7 p.m. Arizona time. The Firebirds beat the Bucs in straight sets a week ago.
