The Park University men's basketball team fell 91-75 to the University of Antelope Valley who was receiving votes in the lates NAIA top-25 poll after being ranked as high as 20th in the preseason poll. The Bucs are now 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in California Pacific Conference play. UAV is 5-2, 1-0.
While the final deficit was 16, there were many positives the Buccaneers could take from this contest. The Buccaneers shot 48 percent from the floor for the game, the same percentage as Antelope Valley. They had more three-pointers than UAV 10-7. They stayed with them on the boards, only losing by five 38-33. The difference in this game came at the free throw line. Antelope Valley had 20 more opportunities at the charity stripe than did Park Gilbert (29-9) and finished with 15 more points. For the first time in the series, the Buccaneers outscored UAV in a half as the Bucs won the second half 45-42.
The first half saw a 13-2 run by UAV break the game open to a 15-point advantage and they would never look back. The Pioneers would open the lead to as many as 26 points with 10 minutes to go, then the Bucs outscored UAV 28-20 over the last 10 minutes of the game to cut the margin to final 16-point total.
LC Ballard led the way with 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Terrance Ward, making his first start of the season, posted 13 points and freshman
Tyson Banks, getting an opportunity due to
Evan Hoosier being out with an injury, earned more playing time in the future with 11 points and five rebounds (4 offensive) in 17 minutes. Eleven Bucs would get on the scoreboard in the game
Park Gilbert will have an opportunity to get back on the right side of the ledger on Tuesday, December 5 when it hosts Embry Riddle at Legacy Sports Park. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
