Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB Has 3-game win Streak Snapped vs. SAGU

The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team had its three-game losing streak snapped by SAGU-AIC 73-51 at Legacy Park in Mesa, Ariz., this evening. With the loss the Bucs drop to 3-2 on the season. SAGU-AIC who came close to upsetting Division I Northern Arizona in an exhibition is now 4-0.

Despite the score, the Bucs held a potent Warriors team in check defensively, holding them to 44 percent shooting from the floor. But the major difference came at the free throw line, where the Warriors had 23 more attempts and with the extra opportunities, 16 more makes. The Bucs were flagged for 23 fouls and the Warriors only had 10 whistles blown.

The other major advantage was on the boards where SAGU owned an 11-board advantage.   Each squad had 14 turnovers and both teams took advantage with 17 points off of miscues for SAGU and 15 for Park. Park won the bench battle, getting nearly half of its points (25) from players coming off the bench.

Individually, LC Ballard led the way with 13 points and three assists. Marquise Mckinzey had 10 points off the bench. For the second time this season 6-5 two-guard Caleb Ivy led the team in rebounds with seven.

The Bucs return to the court on Monday, November 20 when they will travel to Surprise, Ariz., to take on OUAZ who is receiving votes in the last top-25 poll. The Bucs won the last matchup with a one-point home win two years ago.
