Game Recap: Volleyball |

VB Continues to Roll; Beats UCM 3-0

Make it two-for-two. The Park University Gilbert volleyball team (12-6, 5-2) put forth another dominating performance, beating UC Merced 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-10) Friday evening at the Joseph Edward Gallow Gymnasium in Merced, Calif. The Bobcats (5-8, 3-4) struggled in serve receive and were never able to get any consistent offense.

Just as they did yesterday, the Buccaneers jumped out quickly at the start and set the tone for the match winning eight of the first nine points en route to a 25-9 set one win. The Bucs did not give the Bobcats any room to breathe, with 15 kills and only one attack error in the frame. The 15 putaways in the first set for Park equaled the total number of kills UC Merced had for the entire match.

The second set saw a few more errors creep into the Park Gilbert offense as they gifted 10 points via six attack errors and four service errors. Despite those miscues, the Bucs still had 14 kills as they won the set handily 25-16.

As easily as they won the first two sets, it would have been easy for Park Gilbert to let up mentally and let a talented Merced team make a run. But today the Bucs kept the foot on the pedal and left no doubt about the outcome as they jumped out to a 10-1 third set lead and never looked back. They polished off the final frame 25-10 and secured its second win on this northern California road trip.

It was another solid numbers day for the Bucs as they had its season low in errors with eight and set the ninth best attack percentage in school history at .362.

Individually, Amanda Jonovich came down slightly out of the stratosphere from her record setting performance yesterday to only hit .522 today with 14 kills, two errors and eight digs. Makenna Busse tacked on seven kills and hit .700 (eighth best in school history). Freshman Mallory Turner had five kills without an error to go along with three blocks and Hattie Patton set the school record for most digs in a three-set match with 24.

The Buccaneers look to complete the road sweep tomorrow, September 24 as they take on Simpson University at 7 p.m. in Redding, Calif. The Buccaneers own a 2-0 record all-time against the Redhawks. Park Gilbert won 3-0 last year at home.
