WBB Knocks Off Westcliff 57-47

Box Score

The Park University women's basketball team is making its case that it might be the best team in the Cal Pac after knocking off previous unbeaten Westcliff 57-47 at the PHHacility in Phoenix, Ariz.

"Another good win for us," said Bucs head coach Jeff Fore. "We still are battling the injury bug, but we are certainly learning to deal with adversity and we are starting to find our way."

One of the players finding her way was junior Macy Markus who struggled in the Bucs last win over Embry Riddle on Wednesday.  After only scoring two points in that contest, Markus returned to form scoring 17 points, with four rebounds and two assists. Kayla Schroeder continues to be a rock in the team's foundation as she logged 40 minutes for the third time this season and scored 14 points and grabbed six boards, with two assists.  Madison Chappell continues to find ways to produce bug contributions as she posted her second double digit rebound game of the season and also had two steals as she continues to be defensive stalwart.

Westcliff (8-9, 5-1 Cal Pac) entered tonight's contest with an unblemished 5-0 record in the Cal Pac, but could not find the range against the Bucs defense and found it hard to get rebounds as Park Gilbert dominated the boards by outrebounding WU by 15 (48-33).

The Buccaneers (12-7, 3-1 Cal Pac) did not shoot it great from the floor (37 percent) but held the Warriors to 34 percent from the floor and the Bucs were money at the line shooting 7-10 from the charity stripe.

The Buccaneers return to the hardwood on Sunday, February 6 for their final home game of the season against Saint Katherine at 3 p.m. at The PHHacitlity.  Park beat the Firebirds earlier this year in a non-conference contest in San Marcos by 10, 83-73.
