Depleated and Weary Bucs Drop Second in a Row

Box Score

The Park University Gilbert women's basketball team, only playing with seven players for the second night in a row, fell 64-46 at La Sierra this evening in Riverside, Calif.

"We just ran out of gas tonight," said Bucs head coach Jeff Fore. "It's hard to ask seven players with five of them being freshman to play 35 to 40 minutes on back-to-back nights."

The Buccaneers started a lineup with four of the five starters being freshman and three of those freshman playing 30 minutes or more with Kayla Schroeder playing 40 minutes for the second consecutive game.

Playing that many minutes could be seen in the Bucs shooting percentage as the Buccaneers shot 29.5 percent from the floor, 23.8 percent from three-point range and 50 percent from the line. The 46 points scored was lowest of the year against NAIA competition.  The Bucs only scored 37 against Division II Colorado Mesa back in November.  But the Bucs scored more than 46 against Division I opponents Utah Valley, Idaho State and Grand Canyon.

Schroeder was the only player to score in double digits for Park Gilbert with 10.  Hayley Valencia grabbed nine rebounds and Jayla Reliford led the team with four assists before fouling out.

The Buccaneers might still be shorthanded for their next game on the road at Benedictine Mesa as they are now in a battle for the Arizona Region title and an automatic berth to the Cal Pac Tournament.  The Bucs will take on the Redhawks on Wednesday, February 16 and then play at Embry Riddle on Thursday. February 17.
