Box Score Mesa, Ariz. – The Park University Gilbert Buccaneers men's basketball team found themselves tangled with a titan, as the No. 4 ranked Grace College Lancers took down the Bucs 85-62.
The Bucs struggled with shooting and rebounding woes in both halves, while the unfamiliar foes from Winona Lake, Ind. dominated from the field and on the glass throughout the night. Entering the game No. 5 in the nation in field goal percentage, the Lancer flexed their shooting muscles all night, finishing with a 64 percent field goal percentage compared to the Bucs.
The Buccaneers trailed by 17 at half, shooting just 37.5 percent from the field as a team (12-32). Olgierd Dmochewicz led the way for the Bucs after 20 minutes with eight points and six rebounds. Vincent Cooke and LC Ballard each tallied seven points, with Ballard adding two assists as well.
The Lancers had more than begun their fantastic shooting performance at half, with three players in the double-digits at the break. The members of the Crossroads League Conference led the Bucs not only on the scoresheet and with a 63.3 percent shooting percentage, but also piloted a 17 to 12 rebounding battle. The Lancers consistently found themselves in high rate scoring situations, as their 22 points in the paint led to the high field goal percentage.
A solid start led to an exclamation point finish for the Lancers, as they finished the game with a 63.6 percent field goal percentage, increasing their points in the paint to 40. The bench tagged in for a combined 29 as Grace College put the final touches on a flawless victory. Cade Gibbs led the game with 19 points and his team with 6 rebounds, while three other Lancers finished in double digits points.
The Bucs did keep the second half in check, however, they couldn't cut the Lancer lead to less than 15 at any time. Big O finished off his fifth double double of the year with 14 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 6-16 from the field. LC Ballard made difficult shots from all over the floor, finishing with a team-high 15 points on 7-12 shooting in addition to six assists.
The Buccaneers take on cross-town rivals Benedictine University-Mesa Redhawks on Dec. 17 at 8:00 p.m. at Bell Bank Park. They finish their homestand ahead of Christmas against No. 21 Kansas Wesleyan on Dec. 19, at 4 p.m. start at Bell Bank Park.
