Mesa, Ariz. – The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team picked up their first win of the 2022 season against Northwest Indian College, 101-80, on Thursday night at Bell Bank Park.

The Buccaneers had a fast start and stayed hot for the rest of the game, holding the lead until the final buzzer.

Sophomore Zach Lewkowski carried the game, going 4-4 from behind the arc, three of which came in a row, and racking in a total of 22 points. Jaylen Solich, Olgierd Dmochewicz, and Vincent Cooke joined Lewkowski, all shooting into the double digits. 

Solich, a transfer from Folsom Lake College chipped in with 12 points. Dmochewicz went 6-10 from the floor and led both sides of the court with 11 rebounds. The junior also posted a career high 15 points. Cooke came off the bench early in the game and put up 12 points and dished out three assists.

Aiden Moreno made his first home appearance for the Buccaneers and played a successful 20 minutes, putting up eight points and completing seven boards.

The game was all about reps as Park put up 54 points before heading into halftime. Leading into the final 20 minutes, the Buccaneers were able to rotate through their bench and get fresh legs on the floor. At the end of the contest, Park shot 61.5 percent from the floor, outshooting their opponents (45.1 percent) and posted 40 rebounds.

Head coach Gordon Stubblefield said, "Offensively, I thought we did a lot of good things. We shared the basketball for the most part and we were overall aggressive. Seeing those things gives us confidence going into our next match."

The Bucs are slated to travel to Drag's Court, home of the Western New Mexico Mustangs on Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. The Mustangs are a member of the NCAA II Lone Star Conference.
