The 2020-21 Cal Pac regular season champions were unable to pick up the 2021-22 season where they left off as the Park University Gilbert women's volleyball team fell to Montana State-Northern in four sets (25-19, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25).
The Buccaneers got off to a solid start and won set one handily, but the Skylights held off a 5-1 Buccaneers run late in the second set and never looked back. Ultimately, it was unforced errors that kept the Bucs from finding any rhythm offensively. In all, the Bucs surrendered 29 errors and the Skylights capitalized on a number of those opportunities.
"Offensive efficiency is what beat us. Missed serves from the serving line were huge," head coach Clay Webb said in a postgame interview on the Buccaneers Sports Network. "We gave away the game, so that's a match we absolutely could have won, but credit to (Montana State-Northern), they took advantage of our errors."
The Buccaneers next opportunity to get in the win column comes on Tue., Aug. 31 at home versus Ottawa (Ariz.), who defeated the Skylights in five sets last Saturday.
