The Park University Gilbert men's basketball team traveled to Glendale on Saturday night for a matchup with crosstown rival, No. 7 Arizona Christian and fell to the Firestorm, 92-57.
Things got out of hand quickly for the Buccaneers against one of the best teams in the country as the Firestorm came out of the gates on an 11-0 run. The Buccaneers missed their first eight shots before Jacob Bingham stopped the bleeding with a three-pointer.
But that marked Bingham's only score of the contest on an uncharacteristically off-target night in which he shot 1-5 from the field. The rest of the team did not provide much support, shooting 28.1% from the field, 27.3% from three-point range and just 56.7% from the foul line.
Dante Aganmwonyi (13 points, three steals) and Craig Mueller (11 points, five rebounds, three assists) were the only Buccaneers to reach double-digits, but the pair combined for a 7-17 shooting performance. Erik Palmer flirted with a double-double again with eight points and nine rebounds.
The Buccaneers are now 1-3 on the season and their next opportunity to rebound is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 9 at Ottawa (Ariz.).
Notes:
The Buccaneers bench was limited to just 4-21 and was outscored 44-15 as they continued struggling to get production from the reserves.
Joe Walker and Trey Smith saw the floor for the first time this season.
The Buccaneers managed 10 second chance points compared to ACU's seven.
The Bucs are now 0-5 all-time against Arizona Christian, who have been nationally ranked every time the programs have met.
