Box Score The Park University Gilbert women's basketball team closed out the Al Kaly Classic in Pueblo, Colo., with a 102-50 loss against Colorado State University-Pueblo. The loss is the fifth in a row for the Buccaneers but four of them have come against Division I and II completion over the last two weeks.
The Buccaneers struggled to score, shooting 30.5 percent from the floor, 21 percent from three and only 50 percent from the line. They also struggled with ball security, turning the ball over 32 times.
The first quarter saw Park Gilbert stay within range of the Thunderwolves, but their inability to convert on open looks kept them from putting more points on the board and they trailed by nine.
CSUP broke the game open in the second and third quarters outscoring the Bucs 63-27 in that span and put an exclamation point on the win with a 22-point fourth quarter to close things out.
Macy Markus led the Bucs with 14 points, Haley Valencia led in rebounds with seven and Kayla Schroeder led the team with two assists and four steals.
The Buccaneers now return home for three games next week back against NAIA competition. They face off with SAGU-AIC on Tuesday, Nov. 23. The Bucs have never lost to the Warriors, owning a 6-0 advantage over the last two years. Then Park Gilbert will host the Buccaneer Classic next Friday and Saturday as they will face Southwestern Christian on the 26th at noon and then Lincoln University on the 27th also at noon. This will be the first matchup for the Bucs with both teams. Embry Riddle is also participating in the tournament taking on Lincoln and then SCU at 10 a.m. both days.
