Road trips can be hard for a young team learning to play together in their inaugural season. Even more so when it is only the second time all season the team has left the state of Arizona to play a game. In this afternoon's contest against Bethesda University of California (0-24), the Park University Buccaneers (6-10) did struggle initially, but managed to right the ship in time to take a 63-58 win over the Flames in Anaheim, Calif.
"We were definitely sluggish out of the gate," said Bucs head coach Jeff Fore. "But I was proud of how we kept competing, and that determination helped us get the win today."
After struggling in the first half, the Buccaneers went on a big third quarter run to take control of the game and end the teams short two game losing streak.
Freshman guard Elisa Young led all scorers with 27 points for the contest, followed by freshman Anna Laux who poured in 12 points, including draining three baskets from beyond the three-point arc.
Park U Gilbert looks to sweep their California road trip on Saturday, Jan. 11 when the Buccaneers take on Westcliff University at 2:30 p.m., before returning home to take on Saint Katherine on Wednesday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m. at The Nest.
