The Park University Gilbert golf team got off to a good start on day one of the OUAZ Spring Invitational at Laughlin Ranch Golf Club in Laughlin, Ariz. The Buccaneers sit in a tie for third place after day one, six strokes back of leader Linfield University.

Individually, the Bucs have two players in the top-10 in juniors Cole Taylor (-2) and Riley Wortman (+3).

As a team, the Buccaneers shot a first round 301 with seven birdies which puts them in a tie with Embry-Riddle.

Taylor sits in a tie for second place after shooting a two-under 70, two shots off the lead. He had four birdies in the round and two bogeys. Wortman is in a tie for eighth after posting a first round plus-three 75.  He parred 12 of the first 13 holes to start his round.

Sophomore Peyton Shields double bogeyed his first hole before posting par on the next 11 holes. Shields parred 15 of his 18 holes on the day en route to a five-over 77 and is in a tie for 17th-place. Junior Jax Sisson got off to a slow start and finished with seven-over 79.

The battle for the title will commence tomorrow morning with a shotgun start and Park-Gilbert players teeing off on holes 1A, 1B, 2A. 2B and 3. They will play in groups of four with the other three top teams in the tournament.
