For the third time this season, Park University Gilbert men's soccer player Olli Saksinen has been named the Buccaneer Player of the Week for his efforts over the week of October 19-25.

The Buccaneer Player of the Week is voted on by the coaches, staff and faculty at Park Gilbert. The player with the most votes wins for the week. The award recognizes athletic excellence and good sportsmanship.

In a week with many impressive candidates and a very split vote with the addition of men's and women's basketball nominees, Saksinen's efforts won the day.

Saksinen scored two goals and added an assist to help lead the Buccaneers to a top-four seed and a first-round home contest in the GSAC Championships.

The Espoo, Finland native had a hand in all three goals for the Buccaneers against The Master's last Thursday. While he didn't score on Saturday, he drew the attention of the Benedictine Mesa defense which led to scoring opportunities for his teammates as the Bucs score two goals in the first four and a half minutes of the game, then held on for a 2-1 win to clinch the home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Saksinen is third on the Bucs single season goal scoring list with 14. He is one behind Nicklaus Sullivan, who currently plays for the LA Galaxy in the MLS and three behind Caleb Christner who owns the record with 17.

The Bucs men's team travels to face Embry Riddle on Thursday, Oct. 29 before hosting the first round GSAC Championship game on Monday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

Also in contention for the award this week was men's basketball player Isaiah Duve, women's soccer player Marissa Nolan, women's basketball player Addison Pilarski and women's volleyball player Keep Williams.
