Buccaneers Shut Out Arizona Christian 3-0

MESA, Ariz. — Park University Gilbert women's soccer continued its strong run through GSAC play Thursday evening, earning a 3-0 victory over Arizona Christian University at Arizona Athletic Grounds.

The win marked the second meeting between the Buccaneers and Firestorm this season, with Park-Gilbert also earning a 3-1 victory at Arizona Christian on Sept. 10. With Thursday's result, the Buccaneers improved to 7-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in GSAC play. The victory also gives Park-Gilbert a 3-3-3 all-time record against Arizona Christian.

Park wasted little time getting on the scoreboard. Ava Fike opened the scoring in the 13th minute, finishing off an assist from Jacquelyn Bernal to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 advantage. The Buccaneers doubled their lead just before halftime when Kiara Rubio found the back of the net in the 41st minute. Fike provided the assist, giving her a goal and an assist in the first half. Fike continued to make an impact in the second half, setting up Mikenzie Kulish in the 71st minute to complete the scoring and cap a standout performance with one goal and two assists.

The Buccaneers controlled much of the attacking play, finishing with 18 shots, including 11 on goal, while Arizona Christian recorded eight shots and three shots on target. Park-Gilbert also held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Journey Morimoto played all 90 minutes and recorded three saves to secure the shutout.

The victory gives Park-Gilbert its second consecutive GSAC win following last Saturday's 2-1 comeback victory at Soka.

The Buccaneers remain in Mesa for another GSAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 5:30 p.m., when they travel to Santos Soccer Club to face Benedictine University Mesa.
