PASADENA, Calif. --- The Park University Gilbert men's soccer team (1-1-0) dropped its contest to the Caltech Beavers by a score of 3-2, on the road Friday night at North Field in Pasadena, Calif.
The Buccaneers opened up their three-game California road trip with the team's first loss of the 2025 season.
Park-Gilbert and Caltech played a competitive first half, each netting one goal. The Beavers got on the board midway through the seventh minute, but Buccaneers senior midfielder Havard Brynie responded in the 33rd minute with his second goal of the season; a high right shot that reached the back of the net.
The Beavers began to pull away in the final 45 minutes of play, as they scored a pair of goals in the 55th and 65th minutes. In the 84th minute junior forward Monty Almaliky got his second goal of the season, scoring off a penalty kick.
The Bucs won the shot battle 16-8, 11 of which were shots on goal. They also had five corner kicks to Caltech's two. In net for Park-Gilbert was junior Nicklas Lagesen, who recorded one save in his second start this season.
Park-Gilbert now prepares for the second leg of their Cali road trip, as they head Claremont to face the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens this Sunday, Aug. 31 at 1:00 p.m. MST. Following that Sunday contest, the Bucs will travel to the University of La Verne to play the Leopards on Thursday, Sept. 4 at 7:00 p.m. MST in La Verne, Calif.
