The Park University Gilbert golf team sits in fifth place after day one of the Great Southwest Conference Championships at Antelope Hills North Golf Course in Prescott, Ariz.
The Buccaneers are only five shots off the pace of first place The Master's University after shooting a five-over 293. There are only six shots separating first place from sixth place after the first round, so this tournament is still up for grabs for any team who can shoot a low score in rounds two and three.
Individually, Sophomore Riley Wortman led the team with a one-under 71 in round one. He sits in a tie for sixth place. Wortman's round was highlighted by five birdies.
Senior Eli Cruzan shot an even par 72 on the 6,844 yard course. He posted four birdies for his round to stand in a tie for ninth. Sophomore Jax Sisson is in 19th—place after shooting a two-over 74 which included an eagle 3 on the on the par-5 10th hole.
Sophomore Cole Tayor (25th -place) closed out the top four scorers with a four over 76 with freshman Isaiah Halcomb (29th - place right on his heels with a first round 77.
The Bucs produced 13 birdies and 1 eagle in the first round.
