The Park University Gilbert baseball team dropped a 9-7 decision to Nelson University Arizona at Indian School Park in Scottsdale, Ariz., this evening. The Bucs have now lost three games in a row after dropping the last two games at Texas Wesleyan last weekend.
Nelson jumped on top in the bottom of the first getting two runs off of Park Gilbert starter Ben Staiger.
Park got one of those runs back in the second on a Nick Miller single before the Warriors added to their lead with two more in the bottom half of the second to lead 4-1.
The Bucs responded again with two runs in the top of the third as Caleb Rozier and Eric Baratta scored on a wild pitch and a ground out respectively.
That would be all the scoring the Bucs would do until the seventh as Nelson added to its lead in the fourth off of Bucs reliever Hayden King, scoring four runs to go up 8-3.
Nelson would add one more run in sixth, before the Bucs would make a comeback effort.
The Buccos would put four runs of its own on the board in the seventh inning to cut the lead to two 9-7 on RBI knocks from Rozier, Diego Bejarano and Jesh Leckey. But that is all they could muster.
Staiger (0-2) took the loss for the Bucs as he gave up four runs and five hits in 2.0 innings of work.
At the plate Rozier and Bejarano had two hits each
The Bucs now have two weeks off before meeting up against Nelson again on March 4 at 10 a.m. at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa Ariz.
