AZUSA, Calif. --- The Park University Gilbert men's soccer team (7-7-4, 6-4-3) defeated the Life Pacific University Warriors (0-15-2, 0-11-2) by a score of 2-1, Saturday night on the road in Azusa, Calif.
In a similar fashion to last year's road win at OUAZ, the Buccaneers won this contest in thrilling fashion as junior forward Havard Brynie once again netted a game-winner in the 89th minute.
The Buccaneers finish the 2025 regular season at .500 in overall play, and their six wins in conference play marks the most in program history. Unfortunately for Park-Gilbert that did not translate into a trip to the Great Southwest Athletic Conference Championships, as a win from Benedictine Mesa in the afternoon knocked the Bucs out of postseason contention before Saturday night's kickoff against LPU.
In this match, the Bucs were led by junior defenseman Mamadou Seck who scored Park-Gilbert's first goal and assisted on the second.
After a scoreless first half, Life Pacific got on the board in the 53rd minute. Seck tied things up at one 23 minutes later as sophomore defenseman Noah Yalu assisted on the play. Brynie then scored the game-winner with 42 seconds remaining on the clock.
In net for Park-Gilbert was senior goalkeeper Nicklas Lagesen, who picked up a pair of saves in his final collegiate match.
The Buccaneers took 26 shots to the Warriors' four. Twenty-two of those shots for the Bucs came in the second half when they needed it most.
Park-Gilbert men's soccer returns to the pitch in August 2026, as the team gears up for the upcoming offseason. The Bucs look to continue developing their young talent while replacing the leadership of 13 graduating seniors.
