MESA, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert women's soccer team (5-4-1, 3-1-1) lost a home match to the La Sierra University Golden Eagles (5-3-2, 2-2-2) by a score of 2-1, Saturday evening at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
The Buccaneers suffered their first loss in conference play this season, dropping to fourth place in the Great Southwest Athletic Conference standings.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, as they were first to get on the scoreboard in the 11th minute. In the 51st minute corner kick from senior forward Mikenzie Kulish set up the tying score from sophomore defender Bekah Sipinga, assisted by freshman defender Kalei Ganotisi. La Sierra then took the lead back in the 75th minute off a goal from Averi Costa.
Park-Gilbert outshot LSU 18-6. In each half, the Bucs took nine shots to the Eagles' three. Seven of those 18 Park-Gilbert shots were on goal.
The Bucs alternated goalkeepers in this match as freshman Journey Morimoto started in the first half and senior Morgan Trail in the second. Each keeper picked up a save in this contest.
Park-Gilbert returns to the pitch this Thursday, Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. MST when they host The Master's University Mustangs at Arizona Athletic Grounds.
