Bucs Women's Soccer Draws 1-1 at Arizona Christian

GLENDALE, Ariz. --- The Park University Gilbert women's soccer team (1-4-1, 0-1-1) tied their first match of the regular season, Thursday night on the road in Glendale against the Arizona Christian University (2-2-1, 0-0-1).

The 1-1 match was only tied for a total of 20 minutes, as forward Emma Alvarez got the Buccaneers on the scoreboard early. The captain and senior scored her first goal of the season off a penalty kick in the 10th minute.

The Bucs held that lead for nearly 70 minutes, until midfielder Felicia Apodaca netted the tying goal for the Firestorm in the 80th minute, with forward Justyne Underwood assisting on the play.

Park-Gilbert had a busy day defending the 17 shots the Firestorm took, five of which were on goal. Arizona Christian also had eight corner kicks on the evening, and Buccaneers goalkeeper Morgan Trail recorded four saves.

The Buccaneers offense took 11 shots, with 6 shots on goal. Both teams recorded 12 fouls, in what turned into a physical match.

The Park University Gilbert women's soccer team returns to the pitch next Thursday, Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m. MST, in their home opener against Life Pacific (0-5-0, 0-1-0) at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz.
