REDDING, Calif. — The Park University Gilbert (1-2-0) women's soccer team started their two-day stint in Redding, California with a loss to the Oregon Tech Owls (3-1-1) Thursday afternoon.
Last year, Park-Gilbert defeated the Owls 2-0 in the first match up between these two programs. However, this neutral site match ended in a 2-1 loss for the Buccaneers, as they nearly rallied back into the contest after a goal from senior
Ashlynn Jones in the 58th minute of action.
In the first half, Park Gilbert struggled to find the back of the net with three shots and one on goal. Oregon Tech on the other hand, fired off 12 first half shots with eight of them on goal.
The Owls capitalized in the first 45 minutes of play, heading into the break with a 2-0 lead on the Bucs. Their first goal came in the 26th minute off a penalty kick from Kiana Jacobson, then Caitlyn Price scored the second goal of the afternoon for the Owls in the 41st minute.
The Bucs offense then started to come alive in the second half, as
Ashlynn Jones netted the goal that kept Park-Gilbert in the match. The team converted one of their two shots on goal in the second half.
In the full match, Oregon Tech recorded a total of 17 shots with 10 on goal. This made Buccaneers goalkeeper
Morgan Trail's afternoon a busy one, as she recorded six saves in the first half and two the second half.
Park-Gilbert will quickly move on to their next-day match at Simpson University, Friday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. MST in Redding, Calif.
