Baseball Scores 29 Runs in Double Header Sweep of SAGU

The Park University baseball team put on an offensive display today at Arizona Athletic Grounds as they put up 29 runs in a double header sweep of SAGU-AIC. The two wins move the Bucs to 20-19 on the season.

Game 1 – Park Gilbert 12, SAGU 8

Behind strong starting pitching from Trey Langan and 14 hits, the Bucs took game one of the double dip 12-8.

Langan went 5.0 innings, not allowing a run as he scattered five hits and two walks while striking out two. At the plate, the Bucs gave their pitching staff some room maneuver as they posted 10 runs in the first five innings.

Half of those runs came in the third as the Buccos plated five runs on three hits, including a double off the bat of Jesh Leckey. The Bucs also scored on a on a sacrifice fly and a two wild pitches.

Park would then add four more in the fifth all with two out. A single and an error kept the inning going, then Enrique Figueroa hit his second home run of the season, a three run blast to take the lead to nine and then Gino Caperon followed with a double and Diego Bejarano a single to make it 10-0.

The Bucs would need those runs as SAGU scored seven in the next two innings off of reliever Ivri Margolin.

The Bucs would give themselves a little breathing room but tacking on two in the seventh again with two outs in the inning. Catcher Figueroa would single and his courtesy runner Will Fleece stole second and third for the second time in the game. Caperon would score him with a single and Bejarano would score Caperon with a double.

Angel Heredia and Matthew Medina would close things out in the eighth and ninth innings to complete the win.

Langan (4-2) picked up his fourth win of the season on the mound, while Figueroa and Bejarano each had three hits.

Game 2 – Park Gilbert 17, SAGU 0 (5 innings)

The Bucs hot bats continued in game two as they posed seven runs in the first en route to a five- inning run rule victory.

The Bucs put up 10 hits in four innings and Nick Miller hit his first career home run as a Buc.

The Bucs would score in each inning, putting three on the board in the second, two in the third and would finish things off with five in the fourth.

On the mound, Zachary Fogle (3-2) would pick up the win, allowing one hit in three innings and striking out two. DJ Martin would cap the day off with four strikeouts in two innings of work. He also would only allow one hit.

Leckey and Shane Erickson would each have two hits, Leckey would score four times. Brendan Blakeman would score three times and Fleece and Bejarano twice each.

The Bucs will now return to conference play as they will take on Providence Christian next weekend in Pasadena, Calif., with a single game Friday and a double header on Saturday.
