The Park University Gilbert beach volleyball team finished the regular season with two wins over Red Hawks at the Cal Pac Jamboree beating the Benedictine Mesa Redhawks 4-1 and Simpson Red Hawks 5-0. The Bucs finish the conference season 3-5 which puts them in a tie for third with Benedictine Mesa.
Match 1 - Park Gilbert 4, Benedictine 1
The Bucs got a measure of revenge for a loss earlier in the season to the Redhawks winning this morning 4-1. The Redhawks won the previous matchup 3-2.
The Bucs got off to a solid start with a 2-0 win at the No. 2 flight as Nichole Gary and Grace Baker won handily 21-14, 21-14. The win gave the duo their 16th win of the season.
This win spearheaded wins at the 1, 3 and 5 flights where the Bucs won every match in straight sets with only one match seeing the Redhawks taking the set into extra points.
Railey Druxman and Daisy Motes won at the No. 1 flight 21-16, 21-12 over Jewel Carling and former Buc Megan Hicks who transferred to BENU in January.
Taylor Van Winkle and Jess Goldsmith won 18 and 15 at the No. 3 flight, while the No. 5 duo of Avery Turk and Eliza Pearson won 21-15 and 22-20.
Match 2 – Park Gilbert 5, Simpson 0
The Bucs mixed up their lineups against the Red Hawks but the result was the same as the first matchup, winning 5-0.
The match started with the new duos of Motes and Gary at the No. 2 flight and Turk and Van Winkle at the No. 4 winning in straight sets.
Turk and Van Winkle won 21-17, 21-8, while Motes and Gary won 21-14, 21-15.
Druxman and Baker continued the onslaught winning at the top flight 21-11, 21-7 before Goldsmith and Porche Bauer joined them in the win column with a 21-17, 21-11 victory.
The No. 5 flight had Pearson and Makenna Roberts completing the sweep with a three-set victory 21-19, 18-21, 16-14.
The Bucs now have three weeks off before returning to action with the NAIA West Qualifier in Chula Vista, Calif., at the Elite Athlete Training Center.
