The Park University Gilbert golf team opened play in the OUAZ fall Invitational at Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club in Surprise, Ariz.. Noah Blaickner and Eli Cruzan are both within striking distance of the top of the leaderboard although as a team the Bucs sit in sixth place after two rounds.
Today also marked the debut of freshman women's player Felicia Ramsey from Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.
Two rounds were played today and it was a tale of two rounds for Cruzan as he uncharacteristically struggled in round one with a 79 but followed it up with a team best second round 72 which vaulted him to 12th -place. His 72 was tied for the third best score of the second round. This is the first tournament which counts for the junior transfer from Glendale Community College.
Blaickner on the other had was a model of consistency shooting two rounds of two-over 74 which put him in eighth-place headed into the final round. He is eight strokes from the leader, but only three strokes off of a top-five finish which would be a first for Blaickner.
In his second season, Blaickner is off to a hot start as he was the Bucs top finisher in the opening exhibition tournament held two weeks ago hosted by South Mountain Community College.
 Jax Sisson, a freshman from LaSalle, Ontario, Canada was also making his tournament debut, but did get some tournament experience in the exhibition at South Mountain two weeks ago. Sisson is in a tie for 26th after shooting a 79 and 78 in the first two rounds.
JC transfer Hayden West (84, 84) and freshman Nick Kitchen (90, 86) from Nipawin, Saskatchewan, Canada rounded out the five players for Bucs.
Cole Taylor another freshman from Nipawin, Saskatchewan, Canada played as an individual and shot 86, 84.
On the ladies side, Ramsey was the only player for the Bucs on the course today and she opened with scores of 95 and 97 which put her in 23rd place heading into the final round.
The final round of the tournament will commence with a shot gun start at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning.
